Adena tabs Brian Grigsby as next head football coach

SOSA Staff Report

FRANKFORT — One of the Scioto Valley Conference’s brightest coordinators is becoming a head coach.

Brian Grigsby, a longtime assistant coach at Adena High School, has been tabbed as the newest Warriors head football coach. Grigsby will take over for John Penwell, who resigned from the post after this past season.

“God is good. Really good,” Grigsby said. “To say I’m excited would be an understatement. I have been honored to be a part of this program and community for a majority of my life. I’ve grown to truly love these young men. We have some amazing people in this community and it’s reflected by the quality of young people we have.”

Grigsby is a 2004 graduate of Adena and started his coaching tenure in 2012 as a varsity assistant at Southeastern High School. He then accepted an opportunity at his alma mater in 2013 and has spent the past eight seasons in Frankort in various positions — including varsity assistant, defensive coordinator, offensive coordinator and head junior high coach.

The Warriors finished last season at 8-1 alongside a 6-0 mark in the SVC — the program’s first Gold Ball since the 2010 season. They also won their first-ever playoff game by a 37-0 final over Rockford Parkway before also defeating Minster by a 28-0 final the following week.

Adena’s season eventually ended with a loss to Mechanicsburg in a Division VI Regional Semifinal. It was the program’s third consecutive postseason appearance.

“I feel incredible blessed to lead our program moving forward and begin investing into developing great men,” Grigsby said. “More than anything, we want them prepared to go in to the world and lead well.”
