Zane Trace hands Adena first league loss in overtime

SOSA Staff Report

KINNIKINNICK — There will not be a Gold Ball in the SVC this season.

The Zane Trace Pioneers made sure of that on Wednesday.

Two days after Adena won the outright league title with a 40-33 win over Unioto, Zane Trace handed the Warriors a 45-43 loss in overtime — the program’s biggest win in quite some time.

The contest was a close one throughout.

The score was tied 14-14 at halftime and 24-24 at the end of the third quarter. With Zane Trace leading 36-33 with seconds to play in regulation, Emma Garrison sent the game into OT with a 3 from the left wing.

But in the extra four-minute frame, the Pioneers managed to get defensive stops and hit their free throws to seal the win.

Lauren Lane led the Pioneers with 14 points while Gracey McCullough had 12 points. Emily Allen also chipped in with seven points.

Emma Garrison paced Adena with 19 points and six rebounds while Jadyn Smith had seven points, five rebounds and two steals.
