FOOTBALL: Take a look at Week 7 playoff matchups

Area football teams were made aware of their postseason fates on Thursday afternoon.

While some earned first-round byes thanks to their performances throughout the first five weeks of the regular season, some have been pegged to play in Week 7 with their seasons on the line.

Here’s a look at matchups throughout SOSA’s coverage area.

Division III, Region 11

Jackson (5-0) is a No. 7 seed and has earned a first-round bye. The Ironmen, who travel to Chillicothe this Friday, will host the winner of Tri-Valley and Centennial at 7 p.m. on Oct. 17.

Chillicothe (4-1) has been awarded a No. 12 seed and will host No. 21 seeded Miami Trace (3-2). The Cavaliers beat the Panthers by a 44-3 final in Week 5.

Division IV, Region 16

Waverly (5-0) is the area’s top-seeded team in Division IV. The Tigers are a No. 4 seed and will host the winner of Norwood and Shroder on Oct. 17.

Unioto (3-2) is a No. 12 seed and is slated to host No. 21 Hillsboro (0-5) in a first-round bout on Oct. 10. Meanwhile, No. 16 Washington (2-3) will host Dayton Thurgood Marshall the same evening.

No. 23 McClain (0-5) will travel to play Milton-Union, a No. 10 seed, on Oct. 10.

Division V, Region 19

Wheelersburg (4-1) is a No. 3 seed and will face the winner of Chesapeake and No. 14 Portsmouth West (2-3). That matchup will be on Oct. 17 while the Senators and Panthers will meet at West on Oct. 10 with a chance to advance.

The Pirates and Senators are scheduled to play in Week 6 as well.

Northwest (4-1), a No. 11 seed, will host Portsmouth on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. The winner of the game will move on to play Bishop Ready on Oct. 17.

Also on Oct. 10, No. 12 Minford (2-3) will host No. 21 Piketon (1-3) in a first-round matchup. The winner of the game will advance to play Harvest Prep.

No. 15 seed Oak Hill (2-3) is scheduled to host Meigs in a first-round matchup on Oct. 10. No. 17 Westfall (3-1) will also play that night, traveling to New Lexington.

Zane Trace (2-3), a No. 20 seed, will travel to Coshocton on Oct. 10.

Division VI, Region 23

Lucasville Valley (1-4), a No. 13 seed, will host Johnstown Northridge on Oct. 10. If they win, the Indians will move on to play Worthington Christian.

Southeastern (1-4) has earned a No. 22 seed and will travel to No. 11 Symmes Valley (4-1) on Oct. 10.

Division VI, Region 24

Adena (5-0) is the area’s top-seeded team in DVI, R24. The Warriors will play host the winner of St. Bernard Elmwood and Rockford Parkway on Oct. 17.

Paint Valley (4-1) is a No. 7 seed and will also receive a first-round bye. The Bearcats will then host Greeneview on Oct. 17.

If the Warriors and Bearcats would win their first two playoff matchups, they’d meet each other in a Division VI, Region 24 semifinal.

Division VII, Region 27

Eastern Pike (4-1) is a No. 8 seed and has been awarded a first-round bye. On Oct. 16, the Eagles will host the winner of Berne Union and Bishop Rosecrans.

No. 21 Notre Dame (1-4) will travel to play Conotton Valley on Oct. 9. If the Titans win, they’ll play Newark Catholic No. 22 seeded East (1-3) will travel to Reedsville Eastern on Oct. 9.

NOTE: Chillicothe Huntington and Franklin Furnace Green have both opted out of the playoffs.
