VOLLEYBALL

Hamilton Township 3, Chillicothe 2 (25-11, 24-26, 25-15, 25-27, 15-10)

The Cavaliers (0-1) lost a hard-fought match at the hands of Hamilton Township to open their season on Tuesday.

Stephanie Hirsch led the way for Chillicothe with 12 kills, 13 digs and 17 assists while Maleah Oney added nine kills and 13 digs. Katie Conner also helped out with five aces and 19 digs, and Johanna Crawford added 18 assists and a pair of aces.

Next up for Chillicothe is a date at Unioto on Saturday.

Vinton County 3, Huntington 0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-11)

Huntington (0-1) dropped three straight sets on Tuesday, dropping its season opener.

Leading the way statistically was Allison Basye with, unofficially, 11 kills while Megan Steele added four of her own.

Huntington will attempt to bounce back next Tuesday at Piketon.

Northwest 3, Oak Hill 0 (25-16, 25-12, 25-18)

The Mohawks (2-0, 1-0 SOC II) won their second match in as many nights on Tuesday, beating Oak Hill in straight sets. 

Leading Northwest to the win was Haidyn Wamsley with 12 kills, five blocks and six digs while Ava Jenkins had 11 digs and four kills. Reagan Lewis finished with 28 assists and Valerie Copas had eight kills.

For Oak Hill (0-2, 0-1 SOC II), Chloe Chambers had seven kills and five blocks while Kailey Adkins added four kills, two aces and three digs.

The Mohawks will be back in action on Thursday, hosting Eastern, while Oak Hill tries for its first win on the same night, hosting Valley.

Eastern 3, Minford 2 (25-18, 13-25, 25-20, 18-25, 15-8)

In a barnburner, Eastern (1-1, 1-0 SOC II) topped Minford on Tuesday in five sets.

The Eagles were led by Andee Lester, who posted 13 kills and three blocks while Skylar White added 22 digs. Addison Cochenour also helped out, totaling 10 kills, 14 digs and 10 assists.

Statistics for Minford (0-1, 0-1 SOC II) were not available.

Eastern is back in action Thursday, traveling to Northwest, while Minford hosts Clay the same night.

GIRLS SOCCER

Unioto 2, Hillsboro 1

The Shermans (1-1) picked up their first win on Tuesday in a non-league affair at Hillsboro.

Unioto’s two goals came from Emily Hanes and Brandy Robinson. The team will be back on the pitch Thursday, traveling to Jackson.

BOYS SOCCER

Chillicothe 4, Groveport Madison 1

The Cavaliers (1-1) earned their first win over the season, beating Groveport Madison on the road, Tuesday.

After trailing 1-0 just 13 minutes into the action, Chillicothe took a 2-1 lead into halftime before playing add-on in the final 40 minutes.

“We played much better tonight to a man … scrappy, physical, high energy,” Chillicothe coach Mike McCorkle said. “All the things we were not last game. I’m pleased with the way the team bounced back. We got better tonight and we needed this for our confidence.”

Scoring for Chillicothe was Brady Wood, with two goals, Isaac Crawford and Danny Bentley. In goal, junior Jack Huggins made five saves.

The Cavaliers will now host Hillsboro next Tuesday to begin FAC play.
