CANTON — Chillicothe junior Evan Siberell’s season has reached its end but not before he rewrote history … on multiple occasions.
Competing in the OHSAA Swimming and Diving State Tournament on Saturday at Canton’s C.T. Branin Natatorium, Siberell finished 14th in the 100-yard breaststroke final with a finish time of 1:00.39.
That was the exclamation point on a year in which he won sectional and district titles in the event after helping his teammates win a Frontier Athletic Conference title.
“I am very proud of the season I had because I was able to break a minute in my 100 breast and win a district title,” Siberell said. “Also, the team took back our league title and grew in numbers.”
The Cavaliers won the FAC title by scoring 382 team points, 15 better than McClain. That day, Siberell won the breaststroke with a time of 1:02.86, the 200 IM at 2:13.26 and competed on the Cavaliers’ 400 freestyle and 200 medley relays.
In the district meet, Siberell posted swam the breaststroke in 59.74 seconds to win an individual title, a personal best. That followed a sectional championship where he finished in 1:01.43.
“I won sectionals in the breast and set a school record, then I won again at districts and set the school record again,” Siberell said. “At state, I placed 15th in prelims, then finished 14th in the finals. This was really cool and special because my goal from the beginning was to make it to state, and I finally broke a minute as well.”
