Zane Trace’s Colby Swain commits to Wittenberg University

KINNIKINNICK — Over his four-year basketball career, Zane Trace’s Colby Swain has proven time and time again that he’s one of the best guards in Southern Ohio.

Swain’s ability to distribute the basketball to his teammates, his knack for scoring when his team needs him to, and his reputation on defense has all played a huge role in that process.

Now, he’ll have a chance to prove himself at the collegiate level.

Swain committed to Wittenberg University, via Twitter, on Wednesday, where he’ll continue his academic and athletic careers.

“I would like to thank my dad for teaching me the game, my mom for the constant support, and the rest of my family for always being there for me through this process,” Swain said in his post.

Swain has aided the Pioneers to an overall record of 54-16 over the past two seasons, alongside a 37-4 mark inside the Scioto Valley Conference.

Those marks include a Gold Ball during his junior year — the 2018-19 season — alongside the program’s first district title since 1970.

Currently, the Pioneers are 18-3 overall and 12-1 in the SVC.

The team is a No. 2 seed in the Southeast District Tournament and will start its postseason run against the winner of West Union and Piketon at 6 p.m., Feb. 21 in a Division III sectional final.
