WEST UNION — In a high-scoring win over West Union Saturday night, Huntington’s Allison Basye entered the school’s record books.

Basye, a sophomore, scored 40 points in a 74-61 win, breaking the single-game scoring record that was previously held by Braiden Collins, a 2019 graduate who had 39 in a single contest.

The boys record is held by J.B. Edwards, who had 55 points in a game.

In the record-breaking performance, Basye also pulled down 15 rebounds and hit 16 field goals, 15 of which were from inside the 3-point arc. She also connected on 7-of-8 free throw tries.

“Allison dominated on the offensive end of the floor tonight,” Huntington coach Tiffany Carroll said. “She scored from all over the place, but she was a force in the paint. She attacked the rim really well and she knocked down her free throws. She was very efficient tonight. I’m happy for her to get that record out of the way so early in her career. I think we will see a few more 40-point games from her before she’s finished.

The Huntsmen (2-4) bounced back from Saturday’s loss to Unioto with the victory. Assisting Basye in the scoring column was Megan Steele with 10 points while Emily Haubeil and Katie Hirsch each added nine points.

Hirsch also had seven rebounds while Carly Dyer added eight of her own. Haubeil passed out three assists and swiped five steals while Steele had five assists and three steals.
