Piketon logs first all-boys varsity soccer win with victory over Westfall

SOSA Staff Report

PIKETON — History was made Monday night in Piketon.

With a 5-1 decision over visiting Westfall, the Redstreaks earned their first-ever all-boys varsity win … earlier this season, Piketon had beaten Western but it was considered a reserve victory.

“Tonight, we have our first varsity win in history. Coach [Ally] Shaw and I are very excited but this night is not about coach Shaw and I,” Piketon coach Eric Nichols said. “This night is about the boys. They deserve it. They’ve put in so much work, from over the summer, going to different camps … and we’ve taken our lumps. But we knew how hard we would need to work if we were going to experience the success we had tonight.”

In the win, Brandt Thompson scored four goals while Noah Nichols scored Piketon’s fifth. The Redstreaks are back in action, with a win and momentum under their belts, at Fairfield on Wednesday.

“We’re just so very proud,” Nichols said. “We’ve worked hard, they’ve worked hard … I’m getting goosebumps right now. It’s all coming together. There’s no low-hanging fruit as they say. We’ve had to work for it. But a 5-1 victory over Westfall, I couldn’t be more proud as a coach.”
