SOSA Staff Report

WAVERLY — Over the course of the first two weeks, Waverly senior tailback Payton Shoemaker has ran like his hair was on fire.

After posting a 207-yard rushing performance in Week 1, Shoemaker followed it up with an 18-carry, 194-yard, three-touchdown showing in Week 2 as his Tigers beat Zane Trace 49-14, improving to 2-0.

For those efforts, Shoemaker is SOSA’s third SOC Athlete of the Week, presented by The UPS Store.

Out of 359 public votes, Shoemaker accounted for 254 or 70.8 percent of the total. Wheelersburg’s Alli Mcquay finished second in the voting with 42, Northwest’s Brayden Campbell was third with a count of 31, Minford’s Ty Wiget was fourth at 21, and South Webster’s Faith Maloney came in fifth with 11.

Shoemaker received three of the four votes from the guys at SOSA as well.

For his efforts, Shoemaker will receive a free t-shirt from The UPS Store, as well as meal coupons from the Schmidt Family Restaurant Group.
