Ohio Generals 14U win Smokey Mountain Independence Day Classic

SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. — A group of local athletes traveled to Tennessee this past weekend and returned home with a piece of hardware.

The Ohio Generals 14U won the Smokey Mountain Independence Day Classic in Sevierville, Tennessee, winning four straight games to do so after losing the first.

After falling to the Acworth Warriors by a 19-7 score, the Generals won their next three games by scores of 7-3, 9-0 and 4-3 to advance into the Classic’s championship game … where they met with Acworth again.

In the title game, the Generals fell behind early, trailing 7-1 heading into the top of the fifth inning. But in that same frame, the team scored six times to tie the game. Then, they scored two in the sixth and one in the seventh to secured a 10-7 victory.

In the championship game, both Mason Doughty and Dax Estep were 1-for-4 at the dish with home runs. Cole Miller finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs, leadoff hitter Micah Geise was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and both Austin Ison and Isaiah Leeth also collected two base hits.

Leeth picked up the pitching win in 1 2/3 innings of work while the Generals, as a team, posted 13 base hits.

The Generals’ roster is made up of the following players and their home schools: Micah Geise (Ross County Christian Academy/Unioto), Cole Miller (Paint Valley), Dax Estep (Paint Valley), Andrew Lemaster (Unioto), Mason Doughty (Unioto), Dillon Mcdonald (Adena), Carter Glandon (Adena), Austin Ison (Zane Trace), Gabe Rose (Zane Trace), Isaiah Leeth (Unioto), Nathan Morrison (Unioto) and Mason Siberell (Chillicothe).
