LEGION BASEBALL: Post 757 splits doubleheader with Hillsboro 129, Portsmouth 23 falls to Shelbyville

CHILLICOTHE — After a four-game losing streak, Chillicothe Post 757 finally got back in the win column Sunday afternoon.

The Colts (8-13) handed Hillsboro 129 an 11-1 loss in the first game of a doubleheader at Hoffman Field before dropping the second, 5-2.

In the first game, Trey Carter picked up the pitching win in four innings of work, allowing a run on three hits and striking out four batters. He got plenty of help at the plate as 757 pounded out nine hits as a team.

Leading the efforts at the plate was both Connor Mullins and Harley Patterson. Mullins went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs while Patterson finished 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and three RBIs. Ethan Cunningham also had two hits while scoring three runs and knocking in another.

In the second contest, Cole Ratcliff took the pitching loss in 6 1/3 innings of work. Ratcliff surrendered two earned runs on four hits while whiffing seven. Carter led 757’s offense, going 2-for-4 with an RBI while Patterson was 1-for-4 with a triple and a run.

The Colts are back in action Tuesday evening, traveling to Portsmouth.

Portsmouth 23’s offense stagnant in loss to Shelbyville

PORTSMOUTH — Elsewhere, Portsmouth Post 23 (6-11) dropped their fourth straight contest in a 9-1 decision to Shelbyville 37.

In the loss, Bryce Ponn was the pitcher of record, throwing three innings and allowing two earned runs on two hits while striking out a batter.

At the plate, Luke Lindamood was 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI while Ponn and Bailey Rowe also collected base hits.
