STATE TRACK UPDATE: Northwest’s Haidyn Wamsley places second in D-II high jump

COLUMBUS — With a best height of 5-feet-5, Northwest’s Haidyn Wamsley, the SOC’s Track Athlete of the Year, placed second in the Division II high jump event at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, Friday morning.

Wamsley, who qualified for the state event with mark of 5-feet-2 at last week’s Division II regional meet, cleared five heights Friday before three misses at 5-feet-6.

The sophomore also competed in the 100-meter hurdles, placing 15th in 16.25 seconds.

Miami Trace’s Wyatt Cory also earned a podium finish Friday morning, taking seventh in the Division II pole vault with a mark of 14-feet-2. The Panthers’ 4×100 relay of Macy Creamer, Isabella Vanover, Alyssa Butler, and Lilly Litteral took 17th place with a finish time of 50.80 seconds.

Elsewhere in Division II, Waverly’s Kaila Barr finished 11th in the discus throw with a best heave of 123-feet while Hillsboro’s pair of Draven Stodgel and Deon Burns placed ninth and 11th, respectively, in the shot put. Stodgel’s best throw reached 52-feet-4 while Burns threw a best of 51-2.5.
